What is “Away By 1-5” Win Margin?
This is a win margin bet that predicts how many points the away team will win by.
- “Away By 1-5” means you are betting that the away team will win, and the difference between the away team’s score and home team’s score will be between 1 and 5 points.
- This bet usually includes overtime unless specified otherwise. So if the game goes into OT and the away team wins by 3 points, your bet still wins.
How the Bet Works
- Let’s say the final score is:
Home 98 – Away 101- Away team wins by 3 points → Your bet wins because 3 is within 1–5.
- If the final score is:
Home 95 – Away 102- Away team wins by 7 points → Your bet loses because 7 is outside 1–5.
- If the home team wins:
Home 100 – Away 97- Your bet loses because the away team didn’t win.
Betting Tips
- Check Team Margins
- Look at average point difference of the away team in recent games. If they usually win big (10+ points), betting 1-5 might be risky.
- Consider Close Games
- This bet is better when the matchup is even or slightly favoring the away team.
- Include Overtime Awareness
- If a game is likely to go to OT, check if the market counts OT points (most do). A 1-5 margin can easily shift in OT.
- Use Team Statistics
- Compare home vs away performance. Some teams struggle away, others perform well on the road.
- Avoid High-Scoring Blowouts
- If one team is significantly stronger than the other, betting on a 1–5 margin is less likely.
Example
Match: Lakers (Away) vs Celtics (Home)
- Bet: Away By 1-5
- Final score: Lakers 105 – Celtics 103 → Win (margin = 2)
- Final score: Lakers 108 – Celtics 99 → Lose (margin = 9)
- Final score: Celtics 100 – Lakers 97 → Lose (away lost)
Quick Tip:
“Win Margin” bets have higher odds than simple win/lose bets because they are harder to predict, but small margins are common in close matchups.
