(+4) in Soccer (Football) Sports Betting – Explained with Examples

In soccer betting(+4) refers to a handicap or spread bet where +4 goals are added to the underdog team’s final score for betting purposes.

What It Means:

If you bet on Team A (+4), you are giving that team a 4-goal advantage before the match starts.

Your bet wins if, after adding 4 goals to Team A’s final score, they win, draw, or lose by less than 4 goals.

Key Rule:

Your bet on +4 wins if:

  • Your team wins the match
  • The match is a draw
  • Your team loses by 1, 2, or 3 goals

Your bet is a push (refund) if:

  • Your team loses by exactly 4 goals

Your bet loses if:

  • Your team loses by 5 or more goals

Example 1:

Match:
Barcelona vs Almería
You bet on Almería +4

Final score:
Barcelona 4 – 1 Almería

Now apply the handicap:
Almería’s adjusted score = 1 + 4 = 5
Barcelona = 4

Result (for betting):
Almería 5 – 4 Barcelona → Your bet wins

Example 2:

Match:
Manchester City vs Burnley
You bet on Burnley +4

Final score:
Man City 5 – 1 Burnley

Adjusted score:
Burnley = 1 + 4 = 5
Man City = 5

Result:
Burnley 5 – 5 Man City →  Your bet is a draw → your bet WINS or is PUSH depending on bookie

Example 3:

Match:
PSG vs Clermont Foot
You bet on Clermont +4

Final score:
PSG 6 – 1 Clermont

Adjusted score:
Clermont = 1 + 4 = 5
PSG = 6

Result:
Clermont loses 6–5 (after adjustment) → Your bet loses
